 TARABA STATE TO HOST INAUGURAL HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL IN SEPTEMBER 2025.

Destination is Jalingo, Nigeria — (September 24th to 28th 2025)– Taraba State is set to host the first-ever Taraba Human Rights Film Festival (TAHRIFF) in September 2025, marking a powerful new chapter for human rights advocacy and creative expression in Nigeria’s northeast.

Organized by a coalition of human rights advocates, filmmakers, cultural institutions, and civil society organizations, the Taraba Human Rights Film Festival will bring together local and international voices to explore cinema as a tool for justice, social change, and healing. The festival’s central theme — “Restoring Human Dignity, Projecting Indigenous Creativity” — will guide a curated selection of films, panel discussions, industry workshops, and outreach programs.

Taraba’s cultural richness and resilience make it the perfect ground for this vital conversation,” said the Festival Director in person of Mr Moses. V . Samuel..

“Through the universal language of film, we aim to amplify marginalized voices, inspire action, and foster deeper community engagement with the human rights issues that matter most today.”

The 2025 edition will spotlight:

Feature and short films from Nigeria, Africa, and the global world tackling urgent human rights themes;

● Indigenous and youth-led storytelling, with mobile filmmaking labs and community-based screening caravans;

● Industry panels and masterclasses led by filmmakers, journalists, legal experts, and human rights defenders;

● A filmmaker pitch forum for new projects focused on human dignity, freedom of expression, environmental justice, and more.

The festival will take place in Jalingo, with satellite events and screenings extending to communities across the state. Organizers emphasize that the THRFF is not only a celebration of creative talent but a platform for public education, civic dialogue, and peacebuilding.

With support from local government agencies, international partners, and grassroots organizations, the Taraba Human Rights Film Festival aims to position Taraba as a rising cultural and creative hub in West Africa.
