NIGERIA--BRAZIL AUDIO-VISUAL DEAL; A BOLD STEP TOWARD GLOBAL FILM COLLABORATION

Nigeria–Brazil Audio-Visual Deal: A Bold Step Toward Global Film Collaboration

July 2, 2025 | Abuja, Nigeria

In a landmark move that signals stronger global ties in the creative space, Nigeria and Brazil have officially signed an audio-visual cooperation agreement, opening a new chapter for film investment, collaboration, and cultural exchange between both nations.

Speaking after the historic signing ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Dr. Ali Nuhu, Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), hailed the agreement as “a leap forward for Nigeria’s presence in the global storytelling ecosystem.”

The ceremony was witnessed by Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima (GCON), and Brazil’s Vice President, Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, under the framework of the Nigeria–Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM).

( Fabiana Trindade, Secretary Finance National Agency for Cinema, Brazil... )

■ A Shared Cultural Tapestry

Dr. Nuhu highlighted that Nigeria and Brazil, two of the largest Black populations in the world share deep-rooted cultural identities in music, art, fashion, tourism, and, of course, cinema. These rich cultural similarities form a powerful foundation for audio-visual cooperation that resonates with global audiences...

“It’s a timely handshake that opens doors to transformative opportunities in content development, skills exchange, and film financing,” — Dr. Ali Nuhu.

■ What the Agreement Offers

Under the new pact, stakeholders in both countries can expect:

🎬 Co-production of films and documentaries...

🎥 Cross-border distribution and content exhibition...

🧠 Technical skills training and professional exchanges...

💰 Film financing support...

🗂️ Archiving and preservation of audio-visual materials...

🌍 Support for emerging talents...

🏆 Film festival and market development...

🔗 Industry promotion and networking...

Post-signing protocols are already underway, with the NFC and Brazil’s Agencia Nacional do Cinema (ANCINE) gearing up to implement the agreement through an operational handbook titled:

“Nigeria–Brazil Audio-Visual Cooperation Agreement: Procedure and Practice.”

( Post Agreement Signing Engagement between Nigeria and Brazil Delegation. )

■ Aligning With National Vision

The agreement supports Nigeria’s broader cultural diplomacy initiatives such as “Nigeria Everywhere” and “Nigeria: Destination 2030”, both launched by the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy...

Dr. Nuhu emphasized that this development is not just symbolic but it’s strategic. It shows that government is responding to the contributions of Nigerian filmmakers by creating frameworks that encourage international collaboration, boost local capacity, and attract global investment...

He added that just like the already operational Nigeria–South Africa Audio-Visual Agreement, the NFC will ensure that creatives and institutions in Nigeria benefit fully from this new Brazil partnership...

■ Looking Ahead

This cooperation agreement reinforces Nigeria’s growing influence in the global film industry and brings new hope to producers, directors, actors, and technicians looking to scale their stories internationally...

“We are unlocking new markets, new audiences, and new opportunities for African storytelling to shine.” — Dr. Nuhu

Stay tuned for more updates on how this collaboration unfolds—and how it could shape the future of film across the Atlantic...

TAHRIFF PRESENTS: “LEGEND OF KHUM’GBOW” TO SCREEN AT 2025 NATIONAL KWARARAFA ETHNIC SUMMIT IN ABUJA

TAHRIFF PRESENTS: “LEGEND OF KHUM’GBOW” TO SCREEN AT 2025 NATIONAL KWARARAFA ETHNIC SUMMIT IN ABUJA

July 3rd–4th| Abuja, Nigeria

The Taraba Human Rights Film Festival (TAHRIFF) during a summit initiated by the: Kwarrarafa views and values Initiative in collaboration with the Pan African Chambers of Culture, Trade and Investment (PANACCTI) presents the critically acclaimed historical epic,Legend"Legend of Khum’gbow", which will be featured at the "2025 National Kwararafa Ethnic Summit," set to take place in Abuja from July 3rd to 4th. Following its successful screening at the 7th Annual Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival, this groundbreaking film continues its journey of cultural revival, bringing the powerful legacy of the Kwararafa civilization and its vivacious people to a broader audience.

The 15 minutes investors copy directed by Ambassador Hoom Suk Alex Jibrin, Legend of Khum’gbow reimagines the final days of Queen Amina — the iconic warrior queen — believed, through oral tradition, to have met her end during a military expedition in the Ganawuri region of historic Gwash (now Jos). The film goes beyond biography, weaving an epic tale of the kwararafa lineage, including the son taken from her and returned to the Khum’gbow vicinity and the future of the people he sired — referred to as “The Lost Star of the North and their epic battles to secure the middle belt region of Nigeria as the oasis of the region in every ramification.

The screening at the summit will serve as a launchpad for investment and partnership opportunities in the full-length feature series, which plans to include over 1,500 cast members in an expansive cinematic retelling of the Kwararafa kingdom’s legends, Khum’gbow’s legacy, and the spiritual dynamism of the ancient generals and Bori priestesses.

Drawing creative inspiration from globally successful African-centered epics like Shaka Zulu, The Woman King, and Black Panther, Legend of Khum’gbow positions itself as Nigeria’s answer to culturally rich, commercially viable historical cinema — combining authentic storytelling, grand-scale production, and modern feminist interpretations grounded in African heritage.

With TAHRIFF as publicists, producers are now inviting investors, cultural stakeholders, and global distributors to explore this visionary project as a case study in historical African epics with international appeal.

THE RISE OF NOLLYWOOD AT CANNES! CHAMPIONED BY THE NIGERIAN FILM CORPORATION

 “77: The FESTAC Conspiracy”.

How Nigeria Thundered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

As the curtains drew on this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the world once again turned its gaze toward Nigeria — not just as Africa’s creative giant, but as a global cinematic force. Representing the heart and soul of our nation’s storytelling heritage, the special preview screening of “77: The FESTAC Conspiracy” was a historic moment. It wasn’t just a film showing — it was a declaration.

For years, Nigeria’s prolific film industry — Nollywood — remained on the periphery of official selections at Cannes, despite its staggering output and influence. This year, that narrative changed. Nigeria didn’t just participate; we made an unforgettable statement.

Selected and championed by the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), “77: The FESTAC Conspiracy”, directed by the masterful Izu Ojukwu and produced by Adonis Productions, transported the Cannes audience into a pivotal moment in our cultural history — the legendary FESTAC '77. The film is a cinematic time machine, not merely a period piece, but a layered thriller infused with the vibrancy, complexity, and brilliance that defined the largest Pan-African gathering in world history.

Featuring the powerhouse duo Ramsey Nouah and Rita Dominic reprising their roles from “76”, this sequel explores their lives in Lagos during FESTAC, only to uncover a sprawling geopolitical conspiracy that stretches across continents. The film is rich in detail — from vintage vehicles to the authentic portrayal of icons like Fela Aníkúlápó-Kuti, played by his own son Seun Kuti. Every frame is a tribute to our artistic legacy and a signal of what’s to come.

At the NFC, our mission has always been to elevate Nigeria’s cinematic voice and amplify its global reach. As our Managing Director, Dr. Ali Nuhu, remarked at Cannes, this moment is not just about recognition — it’s about strategic growth. The film’s reception has already opened new doors: international acclaim, global distribution interest, and fresh investment opportunities. It validates what we’ve always known — the world is ready for Nigeria’s stories, told our way.

But this triumph goes beyond nostalgia or festival glitz. It aligns with the broader vision of President Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its bold policy initiatives — NIGERIA EVERYWHERE and DESTINATION 2030. With a proposed $300 million investment in the creative sector and a $100 billion GDP target within five years, Nigeria is setting the stage for a new era of global creative leadership.

As we look ahead, the NFC remains committed to solving key industry challenges — from funding and training to infrastructure and distribution. We believe in the boundless potential of our filmmakers and creative professionals. Cannes 2025 is a milestone, but it’s only the beginning.

Nigeria has thundered onto the world stage. And we’re here to stay.
