Jos is making a bold statement this December and it’s loud, local, and unapologetically cultural.

The official unveiling of the 2025 Jos Family Christmas Festival happened on Thursday in the city’s heart at the prestigious Usuji Events center and if the energy at the event is anything to go by, this year’s edition is shaping up to be the most dynamic yet.

Not only were government officials, tourism leaders, and investors at the event, but so were the real storytellers of the streets: Authentic HMK, and a wave of top-tier J-Wood influencers, producers and a select few from the directors guild Plateau zone. Their presence wasn’t just symbolic... It was seismic!

This year’s festival is no longer just about celebration. It’s about reclaiming Plateau’s story with local creatives holding the mic.

● "This Festival Belongs to the People”

At the center of the unveiling, Hon. Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, spoke passionately about using the festival to drive tourism and empower the people.

“We’re deliberately starting early, engaging everyone from corporate sponsors to street creators to co-create something big. This festival belongs to the people.”

Pwajok also announced a broader plan to establish December as Plateau’s official tourism month, bolstered by major renovations at the Hill Station Hotel, Plateau Hotel, and Jos Wildlife Park with each being redeveloped through innovative public-private partnerships.

But beyond infrastructure was something deeper: an intentional move to recognize grassroots creativity as a driver of tourism confidence.

A Festival That’s Bigger, Bolder, and Bursting with Culture

Rume Ogane, CEO of Ecosystems Africa and lead consultant for the festival, unveiled the stacked lineup for 2025 and it’s nothing short of ambitious.

Here’s what’s coming:

■ The return of the iconic Hot Air Balloon Experience

■ A city-wide Christmas Float Parade, led by four themed bands:

● The Governor’s Band

● The Tourism Band

● The Local Government Band

● The House of Assembly Band

■ Deep collaborations with event planners, musicians, and visual artists

■ Full influencer coverage from street to screen.

“We’re building something Plateau can own, expand, and export. This isn’t just a holiday festival,;it’s an economic platform,” Ogane said.

He also revealed ongoing discussions to host the National Association of Tour Operators’ annual conference in Jos, a strategic move to boost both domestic and international foot traffic.

Influencers Aren’t Just Joining... They’re Leading.

What set this unveiling apart from previous years was the intentional inclusion of culture-shaping voices from the streets of Jos.

Known for their raw, authentic storytelling, Hoomsuk Street Visuals and Authentic HMK have long documented the soul of Jos from its music to its fashion to its defiant joy. Their involvement this year goes beyond attendance. They’re shaping the festival’s visual narrative as well.

J-Wood actors, filmmakers, directors and producers have also pledged to amplify the festival’s message through short films, behind-the-scenes coverage, and cultural content leading up to December.

In Plateau, storytelling isn’t just entertainment.. it’s tradition, resistance, and rebirth.

☆A Celebration of Resilience

Local leaders didn’t hold back their support. Hon. John Kyoro Christopher, Chairman of Jos North, spoke from the heart:

“Despite what the headlines sometimes say, Jos is alive. We weep, we rise, and we celebrate.”

His counterpart in Jos South, Hon. Patrick Silas Dung, echoed that sentiment:

When people come here and witness our culture, beauty, and people, they carry a different story back home. That’s the power of this festival.”

☆ December Belongs to Jos

The message from Thursday’s event that took place at the Usuji world events center was loud and clear: the 2025 Jos Family Christmas Festival is not just an event! It’s a reset.

From upgraded tourist infrastructure to influencer-driven coverage, from hot air balloons to Christmas floats, from government to the ghetto and the entertainment pieces are in place.

Jos is ready to show the world who she is: resilient, radiant, and real.

Planning your December getaway?

Make it Jos. Come for the lights. Stay for the culture and leave with a new story.
