FILMMAKERS APPEAL AGAINST PROPOSED WIND DOWN OF NFVCB.

 Oronsaye Report: Filmmakers appeal against proposed wind down of NFVCB

Stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry have appealed to the Federal Government not to wind down the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) as it begins implementation of Oronsaye Report.

The filmmakers, who made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, said NFVCB should be retained as the regulatory agency for the motion picture industry.

According to them, any alteration on the current status of the board, in form of merger or subsuming, will be counterproductive and impede contributions the industry is making to national economy.

Veteran filmmaker, Paul Apel-Papel, said Nollywood was too large to be without a specific agency like the NFVCB to regulate its affairs.

According to the Colorado Film School-trained filmmaker, acclaimed for directing the 2021 war action drama film ‘Eagle Wings’, is playing critical role in ensuring that Nollywood keeps its sanity.

“We are not in support of subsuming or merger because we are even looking forward to a specific ministry that will focus on Nollywood properly as we grow from here.

“The Federal Government should think of how it can actually make a specific focus on Nollywood the way it is doing for agriculture, because after agriculture, the industry is the largest employer of labour.

“We are bringing revenue; we are creating jobs and we are positively promoting the image of the country globally.

“Nollywood is not getting any direct support; everybody is trying to develop their craft and then the only agency we have they want to take it back to the ministry and kill it,” he said.

Habib Mohammed, National President, Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), said it was not possible for such a regulatory body in a critical sector to function effectively as a department.

“The move to subsume the board as part of the ministry will be a real setback to the development already achieved.

“Let us not forget that the board was in the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture as a department, and the creation of the board has developed the industry to where it is today.

“Let the policymakers have a rethink and we are also calling on the National Assembly to stand on its feet for the board to keep its statutory position,” he said.

 In a bid to grow and transform the Nigerian entrepreneurial ecosystem, the Northern arm of the Nollywood Artistes Association of Nigeria through its scheduled event slated for the month of October 2024 in Jos-Plateau state tagged: "CONVERGENCE" believe that the event will bring collaboration which is necessary to achieve it's goal of economic transformation through a diverse ecosystem of private and public partners. 

The national northern exco of the Nollywood Association have taken a bold step to work together with the Bank Of Industry (BOI) in creating sustainable creative industry incubator communities on the Plateau and its plan to harness the Plateau as the Nollywood epicenter of the North with film projects already in the pipeline to deliver more sustainable and equitable solutions for value to amplify their combined impact for constituents under that career field...

The Bank of Industry Limited (BOI) is Nigeria’s oldest, largest and most successful development financing institution (DFI). It exists to facilitate the transformation of Nigeria’s industrial sector by providing financial and advisory support for the establishment of large, medium and small projects/ enterprises, and the expansion, diversification, rehabilitation and modernisation of existing enterprises....

According to Abishak Renkat Woshak, the state Manager of the BOI has expressed it's institutions commitment to collaborate with our strategic planning for continous  development in cultural film activities. According to the statement, the state manager of the BOI emphasised the importance particularly in infrastructural development to aid loans and its benefits happen....

The exco of the northern arm of the Nollywood Artistes Association also highlighted the associations agenda for strategic partnership especially with plans to develop a 3 year movie incubation center on the Plateau with prospects in value for fame and revenue drive in money....

The statement which was led by the national northern coordinator in person of Ambassador Hoomsuk Alex Jibrin quotes in part: “Plateau state has a rich cultural background in film activity and our Nollywood Association needed to activate Cultural Exchanges within its region to spur continous film activity likened to emerging cities like Lagos and Asaba. We needed constant avenues to get to know each other better in our creative industry workforce to strengthen our relationship and network of links. We are planning to host over 500 creative industry personnel in October 2024 in Jos-Plateau state and we hope you will be a part of the delegation so you can come and see what we are putring up for the culture of film services to thrive.”

The BOI and the Nollywood Artistes Association of Nigeria reviewed the future development of its film and value cooperation. They agreed to take the establishment of the 3 year movie accelerator project as an opportunity to further promote creative industry exchanges and value cooperation....

This renewed commitment to collaboration is expected to yield significant benefits for the 19 states of the North driving economic growth, cultural exchange, and creative innovation.

The Director General of the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA), Mr. Bomkam Ali Wuyep, warmly welcomed the National exco of the Nollywood Artistes Association of Nigeria led by Amb Hoomsuk Alex Jibrin the national northern coordinator on a courtesy visit on Thursday the 4th of july 2024 at his office in Jos-Plateau state-Nigeria West Africa.

The visit was in lieu of the associations scheduled plans to ignite a launch for their three year movie accelerator project for the city of Jos the capital of Plateau State before the year runs out in collaboration with the Microfinance agency and a select few government parastatals that would whirlpool the sustainability of the film industry on the Plateau...

The townhall creative industry incubator platform has been studiously crafted by Ambassador Hoomsuk Alex Jibrin, the National northern coordinator of the Association to harness the potential of over 5000 creative industry entrepreneurs from the 19 states of the North to mirror effect in efficiency, quality and reliability the activities of Asaba as a film creative industry hub in real time on the Plateau while creating the environment for value in fame, money and distribution...

Mr Bomkam Ali Wuyep enthusiastically extended an arm of friendship to the association and further explained that the agency he directs will on this project work hand-in-glove with the Association on the basis for professionalism and enhancing skills development especially when the aim of the project is to enable creative people to come together and produce feature length film activities and in real time engage industry people on how to make good content for international consumption with value for knowledge, fame and money...

About 5000 people within the industry from within and outside the Plateau from across the country will be attending the three-month per state townhall gathering of professionals from the association as Plateau state is set to be acknowledged as the Nollywood Centre of the North once it begins....

ANGEL UNIGWE SUES KANAYO.O.KANAYO

 

"Any movie set that employs the services of actress Angel Unigwe will be disrupted!" - Actor Kanayo O Kanayo issues stern warning; accuses her mother of thre@tening and holding movie producers to ransom....

In the words of the actor-turned-producer: "She was supposed to be with me till 12AM midnight according to our contract we signed. But while we were still acting, her mother came at 9PM and took her away. Do you see this girl called Angel Unigwe, I will make sure she suffers in this Nollywood industry! Anywhere I see her acting I will come there and scatter the whole scene". - Kanayo O Kanayo..

In Nigeria, once a kid or teenager starts acting in movies in Nollywood, Nigerians will always see that person as a child, even when they marry and start having kids (for example, Regina Daniels.)

Angel Unigwe is no longer a teenager and you can tell from her recent movie roles in Ruth Kadiri and Omoni Oboli’s movies, that they wouldn't have given her such roles with plenty of kissing and smooching if she was still underage.

If she can stay out late to parties, then she can also stay out to do her job.
KOK’s anger is justified!... Angel’s mom didn't do well in taking away her daughter from a movie set after she agreed to the contract and collected Money.....

In a video he posted online, the veteran actor alleged that Angel, with her mother's support, breached their contract by prematurely leaving his set.

But then again, telling her own side of the story, ANGEL UNIGWE SAYS SHE'LL SUE KANAYO.O.KANAYO!....

Responding to these allegations, Angel Unigwe's mother strongly denied the accusations and defamatory statements made by Kanayo.O.Kanayo in his video...

She stressed their firm adherence to contractual terms and their dedication to honoring all legal commitments.

Angel Unigwe’s mother provided a detailed account of events from June 17th to June 19th, 2024, during which Angel was engaged in Kanayo’s film project with clear agreements, specifically finishing filming by 9 pm each day....

Despite their initial concerns about filming fifty-seven scenes in three days, they agreed to proceed based on assurances from Mr. Kanayo O. Kanayo and his director.

On the final day, filming extended beyond 9 pm by an additional 45-50 minutes, which they accommodated as a gesture of goodwill. She emphasized that they left the location after fulfilling their obligations, without any objections from the director or production manager.

Her statement:

“As a background to the events that led to this, between the 17th of June 2024 and the 19th of June 2024, Miss Unigwe participated in a film project under clear and agreed terms, most important of all being a daily wrap time of 9 pm. Despite our concerns about the feasibility of filming fifty-seven (57) scenes in three (3) days, we proceeded based on the assurances we received from Mr. Kanayo O. Kanayo and his director, in person of Ndifreke Matthew, that the three days period will be sufficient for shooting and that the talent’s shooting time of 12 hours starting from 9 am to 9 pm is acceptable to them, moreso there will be no extension considering her prior engagement. On the final day, despite the agreed terms regarding wrap up time of 9 pm, we accommodated an additional 45-50 minutes of filming beyond the agreed time, which was done out of the spirit of goodwill and understanding that had existed between us, Mr. Kanayo and the film Director. Upon completion of the shoot, we left the location without protest from the director or the production Manager Mr. Cosmos Nwaihe, having performed our obligations.”

Mrs. Unigwe was deeply shocked upon learning of the accusations made by Mr. Kanayo in his video. She shared the emotional distress caused by what she perceived as threats against her daughter, Angel Unigwe. She condemned these actions as cyberbullying and gender-based harassment, particularly hurtful given her long-standing respect for Kanayo.

Juliet Unigwe concluded her heartfelt statement by announcing their intention to seek legal action to ensure accountability and justice in this matter, asserting their refusal to be intimidated. She called on relevant security agencies and organizations to protect Miss Unigwe and herself from any potential hostility from Kanayo.....
